The goal of my presentation is to share with you some of my reflections on the issue of Public Media. They were based on my experience as a journalism professor, video and TV producer and member of organizations dedicated to bringing communication closer to public groups. The new forms of journalism that have appeared in the Internet and in Cable TV have renewed my interest on the study of communication. But they have also increased my doubts and established new challenges.

After the World Social Forum in Dakar, radio WORT U.S. provided equipment for a community radio to the delegation of Mali-Indymedia. Sphinx and Nicole were designated to accompany the delegation of Mali to host a workshop for assembling the radio station. Here's the story of the journey Nicole shared upon her return to Dakar

Thinking Outside the (Newspaper) Box
The recent activism against globalization has encouraged people the world over to reassess the role of transnational corporations and their governmental counterparts in the widening of the gap between rich and poor and the headlong rush toward global warming and ecological devastation. Media corporations are key targets in the ongoing struggle. The actions in San Francisco last September against the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) were a hopeful prelude to a global movement for authentic public media.
