This Congress is the eleventh meeting of Latin American community media researchers. Many of the papers are on line at the congress site. The following report is from Bitácora memoriosa the exquisite blog which is posted by community media pioneer, Alfonso Gumucio Dagron:
Amos Vogel was the founder of Cinema 16, a pioneering "Cine Club" in the US. He immigrated to New York from Vienna during the Second World War. Europe had many Cine Clubs, but there were none in the United States at that time, until Amos began screening experimental and social issue films at the Provincetown Playhouse in Greenwich Village. He also founded the New York Film Festival.

Supporters of Northern Visions today began campaigning to prevent the
closure of Belfast’s only open access community digital media and arts
centre. The organisation exhausted all formal channels when it learned
last week that it did not fit with the remits of the Arts Council of
Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen. Core funding for the
centre was previously received from both bodies. Effectively, it has
been told by these two bodies, that it is neither a film nor an arts
organisation. The centre was established in 1986 and is situated in
John Downing, vice-president of IAMCR and editor of the newsletter is introducing a new feature to the newsletter – a series of brief reflections by IAMCR members on intellectual issues relevant to the Association’s work. In this issue John looks at 'Social Movement Media, Democracy, and the Question of Time-Frame'. IAMCR members are invited to send their ideas for future newsletters to John at news[AT]iamcr.org.
