SABC Crisis as Censorship Increases

Message from Rehad Desai:

Dear comrades and partner organisations,

RE: INVITATION TO PLANNING MEETING ON THE SABC CRISIS

On Monday, 4 July, the Right2Know Campaign will be hosting a meeting of partner organisations to plan a way forward and coordinate protest action in response to the SABC crisis.

In the wake of the ban on covering violence at protests and other forms of censorship, the suspension of SABC journalists who objected to an order not to cover our protest outside the SABC last week, and the shocking news of Jimi Matthews’ resignation, there is now massive pressure on the Hlaudi cabal. Opposition to Hlaudi and those who are protecting him is gaining momentum and

it is imperative, especially at this time of such high political stakes, that we coordinate our efforts to bring an end to the mismanagement, incompetence and political interference that are killing our public broadcaster.

We call on unions, civil society, media workers and members of the public who share our vision of public broadcasting and who want to see the back of Hlaudi and an end to the toxic atmosphere at the SABC, to join us.

The planning meeting will be held on Monday July 4, 4:30PM at Civicus House, 24 Gwigwi Mrwebi St, Newtown. We hope that you and/or your organisation will participate in this important process.

Away with censorship and propaganda! Hlaudi must go!
